The use of stone in the construction

"Natural stone has been and is the best media for aesthetic and architectural expression, so the history of architecture is essentially The history of stone architecture. "With these words, Rafael Moneo, one of the great masters of contemporary architectural recognized worldwide, has highlighted the importance of this auxiliary material from the beginning of construction until today, in a lecture that was to aim to reveal the perfect combination that form the architecture and stone from the beginning of time.
oldest civilizations have left their cultural legacy through the stone. Just think the Great Wall of China, in the pyramids of ancient Egypt, the Parthenon in Athens in the Roman Coliseum, the ruins of Machu Picchu. And without going so far, here Cordoba, The Society of Jesus, the oldest that has survived until today. Knowing even older ones that have gone otherwise deal constructed of materials that have degraded over time.
The stone has such qualities that make it timeless and unchanging. Therefore, in the Hebrew culture to refer to an immutable God, I call "The Rock", being one who sealed an eternal covenant with humanity in the tables of the law that gave Moses on the stone.
In the intervention, Rafael Moneo a journey through the history of architecture highlighting the splendor of the use of stone in architectural compositions and is complete with a presentation by British architect David Chipperfield, who has shared his views on the use of stone in architecture as an activity for excellence in the construction process. The British architect pointed out that "in the current architectural debate the use of natural stone at a critical juncture." In this sense, "proposes to use the stone to make it the essence of the building, beyond its use as a support and surface." The world of architecture should, thus, to reinvent the use of stone in construction in order to return to this material the force that must be existing buildings.
Beauty, asepsis, sustainability and regeneration in addition to their hierarchical qualities that make any work a piece of luxury, but it is something unavailable in economic terms, and that modernization in the treatment of rock have approached the even more humble social class.
If we say without a doubt, that architecture is the great book of humanity, justice if we say that this book is his most important, if not most, written in stone.
